Essay #1 Reflection

My writing philosophy was not following the writing process because I thought it wasted my time. When I received this assignment, I realized how important the writing process actually was. In my outline, I had few ideas down, and after turning my outline into a draft, I kept changing my essay around. I have done a few drafts and I made big changes to my essay. If it wasn't for the peer review or the teachers comments, I wouldn't have really changed my essay, I probably would of just left it how I typed it the first time. I now see how important the writing process is. I believe my final draft of the essay shows my improvements of how I changed the essay around through the writing process. I know for a fact if I didn't follow the writing process I wouldn't have produced a well written essay such as this one. My writing philosophy now is to always use the writing process in order to produce a great paper.

When I write about history I gain a better understanding of what it really is. For example, we read and learned about Bacon's Rebellion, but I learned so much more by researching for writing the essay. I like the idea of writing about history because I can express my own thoughts of what I think. Writing about Bacon's Rebellion improved the way I write and how I see history. Using author's opinions on what they think about a historic event helped me see different views and develop my own opinions. Overall, by writing this essay I learned how history impacted the way we live today. I was never taught about Bacon's Rebellion, but by learning about it I was able to relate it to Indian reservations that we have present in the United States. I didn't know much about Indian reservations, but when I researched it for the essay, I was shocked because what I thought about Indian reservations wasn't what they really are. When we write about history, it becomes a lot clearer to us.
