Synthesis on First Continetal Congress and PSEC

-----After Parliament passed the Coercive Acts in 1774, a group of delegates from every colony except Georgia got together in Philadelphia to discuss the alarming crisis. This group of people were later called the Continental Congress. Puget Sound Early College, like the Continental Congress, is a diverse community where students get together and have a chance to make their own rules. Because most students come from different schools, everyone here has their own perspectives. The Continental Congress and Puget Early College are similar because both get together and discuss issues that are affecting us in our environment. By learning about the Continental Congress, I can see that it is better when we come together and discuss issues that pertain to us in the school environment. When we do come together either through the community meetings and /or the advisory council, students have an option whether to speak their opinions openly or state how they feel about situations within the school.

-----As an enrolled student here at Puget Sound Early College, I so far don’t find any changes that should be done in the governing process. However, I see that participation is a crucial problem right now. A lot of people are not participating, mostly the juniors. I myself do not participate much, but I find that the community will work better if we all unite and share our thoughts. It seems that a small group of the seniors are taking over because most juniors do not contribute their ideas in the meetings. PSEC’s governing system is mostly based on everyone’s participation. So is important that we all work together to make the school a better environment for all of us.

-----According to Edmund Morgan, "the Continental Congress appeared as a challenge to Parliament" (67). Puget Sound Early College is a challenge to regular education systems. The reason is because here at PSEC, teachers do not allow us to just absorb the information, we are challenged to think deeper. Gerda Lerner stated that history can never be repeated in the same way. Here at PSEC we try to make a better community by putting our ideas together. Even if we come up with new ideas the outcomes will always be different.
